This volume of the Journal of Southeast Asian Education consolidates the most relevant and impactful articles presented across two successive, highly successful symposia.

The 12th SEAMEO-University of Tsukuba Symposium provided the foundational analysis, centered on the theme: “Challenges and Ways Forward in the Era of Generative AI with Reflection on 25 Years of 21st Century Education.” These articles critically assessed the ethical, pedagogical, and policy implications of Gen AI, showcasing best practices for its responsible integration. This collection is further strengthened by proceedings and articles derived from the 13th Symposium, which addressed the necessary methodological shift toward “Transforming Education to Problem-based Learning in the Era of AI and Data Sciences.” By bringing together these two strategic pillars—Gen AI integration and Problem-Based Learning in a data-rich environment—this scholarly consolidation offers a unique, holistic view of the region’s comprehensive response to the future of education.
