The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education (SEAMEO) has launched its official publication Journal of Southeast Asian Education to the public on July 10, 2000 at the Century Park Hotel during its Centre Directors and Strategic Planning Group meeting 2000.
The journal is published twice a year and the main purpose is to provide information and analysis in policy making and planning in the countries in the region. It promotes the interchange of ideas on educational issues, and comparative studies, both within the countries of the region and other parts of the world. Each article in the journal is written to enable readers from outside the country to obtain an overview of the education provision in the 10 Southeast Asia countries who are the members of the organization. International academicians such as Dr Alex Fung from Hong Kong Baptist University, Professor David Teather from the University of New England, Australia, Dr Erlinda Pefianco, SEAMEO INNOTECH Director form the editorial board of the journal.
The theme of the first issue of the Journal addresses Challenges in the New Millennium with official contributions from the Ministries of Education of the 10 SEAMEO Member Countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. There are five sections in the first issue: history of education provision, current context of education, aims of education, nature of the current provision of education and issues in education.
